Nací en mayo de 1989, en Santiago de Chile. Estudié Licenciatura en Arte en la UDD (2008 – 2012), y realicé un Diplomado en Estudios Críticos y Curatoriales, impartido por la misma universidad y el Museo de la Memoria y los Derechos Humanos (2014).

Mi obra se ha centrado en el estudio del sentido de pertenencia de las personas a distintos espacios, tanto físicos como psicológicos, particularmente en como transformamos contextos hostiles en lugares cálidos e íntimos: en hogares. Esto comenzó el 2009, a raíz de un acontecimiento familiar, donde mi padre fue declarado culpable en un juicio, y condenado a más de 15 años de cárcel efectiva. Encontrarme en esta situación, me obligó a replantearme los lugares comunes de mi familia. Si mi padre estaba lejos, ¿era mi hogar mi casa? ¿O mi hogar era donde estaba mi familia?

En visitas nostálgicas y filas interminables, entendí que eran esos espacios los que alojaban familias, compuestas por padres, por hijos, por parejas, por amigos… Por quienes hacían de ese lugar, un espacio común, un espacio de contención, un espacio de fuego e intimidad. Con el pasar del tiempo, esos lugares se ampliaron: hospitales, psiquiátricos, exilios, e incluso cementerios. Donde sentimos pertenencia, construimos hogar.

Hoy, trabajo retratando y construyendo no sólo espacios y rostros que reflejen propiedad, territorio, pertenencia, sino también los ritos y tradiciones que se llevan a cabo dentro de ellos, y la importancia de estos al momento de construir nuevos hogares. Finalmente, es la memoria y la manera en la que la perpetuamos, la que define y construye la forma en que habitamos.

I was born in May 1989, in Santiago de Chile. I studied Bachelor of Art at UDD (2008 - 2012), and I completed a Diploma in Critical and Curatorial Studies, taught by the same university and the Museum of Memory and Human Rights (2014).

My work has focused on the study of people's sense of belonging to different spaces, both physical and psychological, particularly how we transform hostile contexts in warm and intimate places: in homes. This started in 2009, following a family event, where my father was found guilty at trial, and sentenced to more than 15 years in effective prison. Finding myself in this situation forced me to rethink my family's common places. If my father was away, was my home my home? Or was my home where my family was?

In nostalgic visits and endless lines, I understood that it was these place that housed families, made up of parents, children, couples, friends ... For those who made this place a common space, a space of containment, a space of fire and intimacy. Over time, these places expanded: hospitals, psychiatrics, exiles, and even cemeteries. Where we feel belonging, we build a home.

Today, I work mainly from photography, portraying not only spaces and faces that reflect property, territory, belonging, but also the rites and traditions that take place within them, and the importance of these when building new homes. Finally, it is memory and the way in which we perpetuate it, that defines and builds us. The one that creates us and in just measure destroys us.
