Esta obra muestra, a primera vista, una hora del té. Sin embargo, al observar los objetos en la mesa, vemos que son instrumentos “hechizos”, como el hervidos, y las bolsas de té, todos construidos por reos del Centro Penitenciario Santiago 1.

 

“Hora del Té” aborda la herencia como cimiento de la identidad. A partir de lo que nos enseñan, de lo que nos muestran y de lo que nos impregnan cuando somos niños, forjamos nuestra esencia, pero también nuestra historia. ¿Qué pasa cuando esa herencia sociocultural se ve dañada? ¿Qué cosas haríamos para lograr mantener una tradición en el tiempo, aún cuando esta no sea necesaria para (sobre)vivir?

La homogenización entre necesidad básica y costumbre en ciertos grupos socioeconómicos, es principalmente la lógica de esta obra, que pretende descubrir un cinismo e hipocresía que ha sido creado para esconder realidades dentro de ficciones, y como la desesperación, se convierte en materia creativa para el escape.

This installation shows -apparently- a tea party. However, once we sit down, we notice that the elements in the table, are made with low tech materials, being the most important item, the kettles, made by former inmates of the Penitentiary Santiago 1.

 

“Tea Time” is about inheritance, and how this is the foundation of identity. From what we were taught, what we were showed and what we soaked when we were children, we have not only built our essence, but also our history.

 

What happens when our cultural heritage is damaged? What would we do in order to maintain a tradition over time, even if this is not necessary to (keep a) live? "Tea Time" plays with the homogenization between basic necessity and mores in certain socioeconomic groups, which aims to discover cynicism and hypocrisy that has been created to hide realities within fictions, and how desperation, becomes creative material for conceptual escape.
